Our History

Generations of serving God and the Community

The original church building was built in 1886 as a one room sanctuary. The sanctuary, tower & steeple in the picture are the original, although the sanctuary walls were covered with siding in the 1960's. A basement was dug out by hand in about 1955. An extension to the basement was dug in 1962. It was all underground with a flat ground-level roof. The portion directly behind the sanctuary was built on top of the basement extension in 1975 and a door in the front left portion of the original building was inserted to provide access. The origainal building had a pot-bellied coal stove in the center right of the sanctuary. A pot-bellied coal stove was replaced by a coal furnace when the basement was dug out. The coal furnace was replaced in late 70's or early 80's with a heat pump. The newer section, to the right of the sanctuary was added in 2008.
